LGBTQ+ Affirming Counselling

LGBTQ+ Affirming Counselling

LGBTQ+ affirming counselling provides a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space for individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, or are questioning their sexual orientation or gender identity. This counselling approach affirms and respects each person’s unique identity and lived experience, while addressing the emotional, psychological, and social challenges they may encounter.

At Existential, our LGBTQ+ affirming counselling includes:

  • Identity Exploration and Acceptance – Supporting clients in exploring, understanding, and embracing their sexual orientation and/or gender identity.
  • Coming Out Support – Assisting individuals in navigating the personal and relational aspects of coming out to family, friends, or colleagues.
  • Mental Health and Well-being – Addressing issues such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and minority stress, which are often related to stigma or discrimination.
  • Relationship Counselling – Helping LGBTQ+ individuals and couples strengthen relationships, improve communication, and resolve conflicts.
  • Family Support – Guiding families to a better understanding, acceptance, and support for their LGBTQ+ loved ones.
  • Transition Support – Offering emotional support to transgender and gender-diverse individuals during their gender transition journey.
  • Safe Space for Healing – Helping clients process experiences of rejection, bullying or discrimination in a compassionate and affirming environment.

Our counsellors are trained to use inclusive and culturally sensitive approaches that honour diversity and human dignity. We are committed to fostering resilience, self-acceptance, and empowerment, enabling LGBTQ+ individuals to live authentically and thrive.
